Architecture Factory Open night/exhibtion Friday 20th September

29 August, 2013

CIT's Architecture Factory will hold on open night and exhibtion on Friday 20th September at the CIT Bishopstown Campus on the Melbourn Road.

The Architecture Factory is CITs newest facility for the Department of Architecture. Based in the old TYCO/Sensormatic factory, the new space is an outward expression of CITs ambition for its Architectural Courses. The Interior Architecture programme specialises in building adaption and re purposing and this facility is an exemplar of this. The Interior Architecture was by one of CITs own lecturers Marc O Riain (formerly of RORSA and HJL), Architecture by RKD and Engineering by ARUP. Populated with brightly coloured used shipping containers, that have been around the world 3 times, and open plan studios accomodating 240 students and 15 lecturers, the space is exciting, energetic and inspiring. It is a must see!

Each year the Department of Architecture runs a 'vertical project' which brings students together from the Interior Architecture and Architectural Technology courses in teams of 6 representing the first 3 years of the courses. The teams are tasked with problem solving interesting Architectural challenges. The teams compete to design and build solutions in 5 days. The exhibition of this 'vertical project' opens at 6pm on Friday 20th September in the Architecture factory.
