Cork Institute of Technology’s Architecture Factory, which was shortlisted for a World Architecture Award last week, is narrowly leading the public online vote. CIT’s Architecture Factory which has already beaten Google’s new Dublin headquarters on its way to winning the National Design Grand Prix last November is now challenging for a Global Architecture Award. In a week where they Irish will be cheering their champions at Cheltenham, at home Cork has a nose in front. The public online, which opened on March 4th vote, closes just after Paddy’s day on Friday, March 21st with winners announced soon after in New York. The designers are hoping to build on the massive public support to paint the world architecture awards lime green in time for Paddy’s day.  CIT is calling for Irish support and you can support the vote online at Marc O Riain, the CIT Department of Architecture Lecturer commented: “CIT, ARUP and RKD are pushing hard on every platform for a public support. Wouldn’t it be great to take the spoils in Cheltenham, Paris and New York in a great week for the Irish?”

The design based in the former factory on Melbourne Road was completed in 2013 and houses CIT’s Department of Architecture. Designed by CIT’s lecturer, Marc O’Riain, together with RKD Architects and ARUP, the design studios in the Architecture Factory are made used shipping containers that have been around the world three times.

CIT lecturer, Interior Architect, Marc O’Riain is delivering an open lecture on Saturday 15th March at the Architecture Factory, CIT at 1.30pm and all are welcome.
