The Department of Architecture
Welcome to the Department of Architecture at MTU. We have a long history in Cork, going back to the 1950s. Our department is still unique in Ireland, with programmes across 3 disciplines that represent different aspects of the built environment:
• Architecture
• Interior Architecture
• Architectural Technology
By bringing teaching, research and civic activity together around these fields, the department is an exciting and dynamic environment in which to study.
The MTU Department of Architecture has a growing body of around 300 students, and an experienced and committed staff team, who are both highly experienced architects, interior architects and technologists, and academic researchers.
Our Interior Architecture and Architectural Technology programmes are delivered on the MTU Bishopstown campus, in the award-winning Architecture Factory building. The Architecture programme is run jointly with UCC and delivered in a purpose-built facility next to the Nano Nagle development in Cork city centre.
Whichever programme you study, we hope that in your time here you share our belief that our wider discipline is unique, exciting and rewarding - it is incredibly varied, and both creative and technical. Perhaps most of all, you are involved in activity that can make a difference to society and to the environment. Good design and technology in the built environment improves people’s lives - the cities and buildings that we all live, work and play in - and is one of the most important ways to respond to the climate crisis.
